ST ALBANS will get a new arts centre and gallery in Hatfield Road, the University of Hertfordshire has announced.
The university plans to relocate its law school to its new De Havilland Campus in Hatfield, transforming the St Albans building into an arts facility run jointly with the neighbouring Museum of St Albans.
District council leader Robert Donald said: "This project is an exciting opportunity both to provide a new exhibition facility and at the same time create a premier class art gallery of regional importance in our city centre.
"It is intended that the new facility will be available to civic, business and community arts groups locally to use.
"We plan that this new space will be jointly run and staff resources shared in mounting exhibitions.
"This is a unique opportunity to redevelop our museum site now and obtain additional funding which will not come again."
