GREYS Hairdressers proved to be a cut above the rest in the first ever Retailer of the Year competition.

There were eight nominations in the hair and beauty category, but there could only be one winner on the night.

It was a toilsome time for the judging panel who were given the strenuous task of choosing three finalists from the impressive entries.

And after much deliberation those shortlisted were Greys Hairdressers in Christopher Place, Sanrizz in The Maltings and Ginger Natural Health in London Road.

The award was presented to Grey's at a gala evening in the Alban Arena last night.

Salon manager Rachel Oliver, said: "I think we strive to be the best all the time and we are all about customer service. We have been a salon for 21 years and our clientele have been coming for a long time. I would like to say thankyou to all of them for voting for us."

"The staff will be delighted.

"I'm sure they will feel proud to work in a salon that's won Retailer of the Year and hopefully we'll win it next year.

"The city centre needs a competition like this. We are a small business and we have seen a lot of them go recently.

"The small businesses make the city what it is. It's good to have something like this just to keep all the small businesses in the city centre."
