LK Bennett was crowned the queen of fashion when they won the Fashion and Accessories Retailer category at the Retailer of the Year competition 2008.

The accolade was presented at the first annual St Albans Retailer of the Year which took place last night at the Alban Arena.

Eighteen retailers were nominated for the fashion and accessories category but only three made the short-list: LK Bennett, Hopscotch and The Dressing Room.

The award, presented by Councillor Roma Mills, was given to the shop because of their vast range of womenswear and accessories which they have been selling to shoppers in St Albans for just over three years.

Shop manager Jacquie Shefras said: "It is fantastic - it's like winning an Oscar.

"I have worked in London in Harrods but working here is even better, this local community is amazing and supporting them is what we are all about.

"During the week we get totally different clients to the weekends.

"We range from serving business ladies to mums, we have something for everyone."

Other LK Bennett, based in Christopher Place, is open Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 6pm and 11am to 5pm on Sundays.

The gala evening was organised by The Review, St Albans City and District Council and the Civic Society.
