A hearing helping hand

| Hearing dog Maple |
SOUNDS such as the as buzz of the doorbell, the ring of the telephone and the rude awakening of an alarm clock are taken for granted by the most of us, but they are sorely missed by those who lose their hearing.
But with hearing dogs day-to-day tasks are made a lot simpler.
So to celebrate its 50th anniversary a local retailer is embarking on a fundraising drive to raise money for the charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People - a national charity which trains dogs to alert the deaf to specific sounds in the home, workplace or public buildings.
The company is celebrating its milestone anniversary by raising money for the charity during Deaf Awareness week which starts on Monday, May 5.
Charity fundraiser Alice Paine said: "The training of each dog is a lengthy process that costs thousands of pounds, so we are very grateful to The Hearing Company for this generous contribution and ongoing support."
The Hearing Company operates from Ronald Brown Opticians in Welwyn Garden City, manager Elaine Gunn said: "We will be donating £50 for every hearing aid we sell during the week.
"We are very proud of our significant milestone and are marking it with this charity donation during the most important week of the year for hearing care specialists.
"We have a natural link to Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, which trains dogs to alert their owners to specific sounds, and are honoured to be able to support the fantastic work it does."
