THE cost of the consultation into plans for more gypsy sites in the St Albans area is £46,000, parliamentary questions revealed today.

St Albans MP Anne Main said: "£46,000 of tax payers' money has been wasted on what is an essentially a done deal.

"These sham consultations never offered a 'No' option and always proposed 33 extra pitches for St Albans.

"These pointless consultations rolled out by the Government are a colossal waste of public money if the outcome has been rigged in advance."

The latest consultation expires on May 22.
