YOU can learn about the area whilst getting some excercise later today.

Walk & Explore is a series of walking adventures which allow people to discover the hidden gems of their town while raising money for The Children's Society.

There will be two walks taking place in the town today from 9am until 3.30pm, both kicking off from Verulamium Park.

The 1.5 mile young detectives trail is designed for children and families and along the route historical characters will offer facts and clues towards solving a special riddle.

The four mile Discoverers' Trail is more of a challenge and walkers will get the chance to learn about the history and heritage of the city as they stroll.

The Children's Society has also secured free or discounted entry to some of St Albans most famous landmarks including Kingsbury Watermill Museum, the Clock Tower, Verulamium Museum and the Abbey.

Other entertainments include face painting, games, live music and dance.

The charity is hoping to raise £350,000 through various nationwide Walk and Explore events.
