OUR district is special and offers a unique diversity and quality of life. We will maintain that special character and resist inappropriate development in our city, town and villages.

Liberal Democrats will:

  • Keep any council tax rises below RPI inflation through efficiencies while maintaining high quality services. The Audit Commission rated our council in 2008 as one of the best performing districts.
  • Fight for our communities: resisting invasion of the Green Belt to meet Government housing and gypsy site totals, demanding the county council mends our roads and campaigning for increased school and hospital provision.
  • Protect the environment: recycling more to achieve our 50 per cent household waste target by 2010, reducing the council's carbon footprint by a quarter in five years and the district's by 60 per cent by 2025 and implementing green travel projects.
  • Require one affordable home for every three built to help particularly key workers and young people remain locally.
  • Expand St Albans' cultural facilities and tourism with an appropriate cinema, new Westminster Lodge, exhibition gallery and annual festival.
  • Combat street crime by replacing recorded CCTV with live CCTV in our villages/centres.
  • Provide more leisure opportunities for our youth and elderly and reduce inequalities in deprivation areas.

Why should we believe your promises?

The Lib Dems promised us a vote on the EU referendum and then went against your word!

Another thing Cllr Donald: why when there is a 'bad news story' about the Council why is a Council officer quoted but when 'good news story' you are all over it like a cheap suit?

This is Bob from St Albans, not BoB S from St Albans - no relation.

Look at the first words of each paragraph: Keep, Fight, Protect, Require, Expand, Combat, Provide. Hard talk, soft centres. Why don't they just come out with it - we are nicer than the others, vote for us to stay in power to collect those generous allowances.

The Fib Dems are all about hard talk!

I disagree with the other Bob: "we are nicer than the others". They try and portary themselves as nice - however, they are a nasty little lot.

Even locally look at what Lib Dem HQ did to poor Michael Green. Booted out of his job!

This was all because some some oily PR man helped with Ming's flawed leadership....

The local members of St Albans voted for who their candidate would be- National don't get involved. It's called Democracy- or should we be asking what Labour did to poor Kerry- that nasty Roma!
