LIBERAL DEMOCRAT leader Nick Clegg arrived in St Albans this morning to celebrate the party's triumph in last night's local elections.

The district's victorious Lib Dems turned out in their droves this morning to raise a glass of bubbly after taking a strong hold of St Albans District Council.

And joining them in their toast was the euphoric Lib Dem leader who saluted his party's performance, insisting it did 'exceptionally well'.

He said: "It is a very strong result.

"We have increased the number of councillors when I was being told for the last several weeks that we were almost certainly going to lose councillors.

"We have outpolled Labour for only the second time in our party's history, and crucially we have been winning against both Labour and the Conservatives."

I'm from London and have just been watching the BBC.

They said that Lib Dems had taken this seat from the Tories... that isn't true!

Winning overall control of St Albans District is probably the poisoned chalice, better to have finished a close second and wait for the LibDems to finish the job of bankrupting the City then get the boot. One thing we know for sure - councillor allowances will be greatly increased, new senior jobs will be created, fancy dan new projects or old projects given a facelift will take centre stage and the routine less glamorous headline grabbing duties will either be done half-**** or not at all.

Mark it had no overall control but Lib Dems had the majority. So therefore they won it from NOC, the Tories certainly weren't in control - bloody beeb!!

Can you hear that sound Bob? It's your Labour party collapsing around your ears.

Council allowances went up by 1.9% this year - less than the independent recommendation and inline with public sector wages.

At last the Lib Dems have the opportunity and the authority to restore the Jubille Centre to its proper use, and denounce the false and immoral excuse about "Health and Safety"

Didn't you know David, the Lib-Dems at County Hall supported the Conservatives' decision to stop providing the day service at the Jubilee Centre.
