A THREE-way collision has caused major delays on the A1M near Hatfield this morning.

A van was travelling southbound between junctions four (Tesco roundabout) and five (North Hatfield) at around 9am when it collided with the central reservation and careered into oncoming traffic travelling northbound.

It is believed the van, which was carrying soft drinks, cigarettes and confectionery, struck two cars as it crossed lanes causing the load to spill onto the carriageway.

Both carriageways have been sealed off causing tailbacks in both directions.

Paramedics are treating motorists for minor injuries at the scene.
