A St Albans charity has been saved from the brink of bankruptcy thanks to a £2,000 donation.
Physically Disabled Able Bodied hit a financial crisis earlier this year when the charity faced serious closure for the first time in its history since 1957.
But after reading an article in the St Albans and Harpenden Review in May, Susan Lobban, Barclays’ Community Manager, who contacted the charity to arrange the Barclays’ donation.
The charity is devoted to staging events to unite those who are physically disabled with those who are not, and offer trips like abseiling and kayaking.
As well as receiving £2000 cash, PHAB is now aided by Barclays community volunteers at their events and day outings, each one promised an endorsement of £500.
Susan said: "This is really what these funds should be used for.
“PHAB is a really good local charity and we are aiming to build up a good relationship with the charity and raise money for them on a ongoing basis.
“Marion Jones, the secretary, is absolutely fantastic and I find it quite fulfilling to volunteer in this way.
“Who wouldn't when it's to help disabled children?"
Susan is also discussing a future fundraising event with PHAB, when the money raised will be matched pound for pound.
Marion said: "We are delighted to have made contact with Barclays.
“It came quite out of the blue when we were needing a substantial level of funding.
“Now that we have the required funds we can continue to take the children away on trips."
The Barclays’ community investment programme, headed by Susan, also raised £6,783 for St Albans City Youth FC this year
