A MAN was crushed by his classic car as he carried out maintenance work in Hatfield.
The man, of Chelwood Avenue, was working underneath his Triumph Spitfire when the jacks it was raised upon collapsed and the vehicle fell on top of him.
Firefighters from Hatfield and Welwyn were called to assist paramedics at the scene at around 11am yesterday (Saturday).
Special air mats, described as "big balloons", were pumped up underneath the car, which was in a garage, to lift the vehicle off the man. It was then stabilised on blocks to secure its position.
The man suffered chest and arm injuries and was lifted onto a stretcher before being taken to hospital.
