SIX teachers from Hatfield are to trek the three highest peaks in the UK.

Teachers from Countess Anne School in Hatfield will climb the highest mountains of Great Britain in just 24 hours.

They are to take on the Three Peaks Challenge which includes Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales in just one day, which also incorporates driving between the mountains.

The teachers are taking on the arduous task in order to raise money to redevelop the school playground.

Head teacher David Lodge is excited about the challenge.

He said: "It's going to be pretty intense, we are trying to raise money for the school to build some cool climbing equipment in the play ground.

"I have attempted to do it twice already and have just missed out on the 24-hour gap, you have to be prepared for extenuating circumstances such as traffic and getting lost on a mountain at night. I am very excited about it. It is a great thing to do to raise money."

The children have spent a lot of time designing the climbing frames with the architects and have also been eagerly raising money through various events including car washing and tidying their bedrooms.

Sponsors would be appreciated by the teachers.
