Lemurs enjoy luxury upgrade

Dominic shows the lemurs the way home

A TROOP of bachelor lemurs stepped into their new Madagascar-style home at Whipsnade Zoo last week, after Radio One newsreader Dominic Byrne had opened the enclosure.

The 14 primates, native of Madagascar, had their enclosure upgraded and an interactive walkway built through the middle so visitors can get even closure to the black and white ring-tailed creatures.

Dominic, from St Albans, part of the Chris Moyles Breakfast Show team, was the first to step into the In With The Lemurs Exhibit last Wednesday. He is a huge fan of the Dunstable zoo, often visiting to catch up with his friend Barclay the Californian sea lion.

The Zoological Society of London Whipsnade Zoo is a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria, and its campaign for 2007 is supporting Madagascar, claimed to be one of the most important biodiversity hotspots on earth.
