Theatre Royal Windsor: The Chicago Blues Brothers ****

5:13pm Friday 4th April 2008

What a week at the Royal' for some of the best tribute music in the business.

Producer Pete Tobit brought his Chicago Blues Brothers to Windsor for a week long lunge into soul.

Just six months ago it was their one night stand at the theatre but so good were they that brilliant Bill Kenwright, the Royal's owner impressario, gave them a longer stint this time around.

And thank God they were on a mission from the man.

Based on the 1980 seminal cult movie, The Blues Brothers, with Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, this tribute to Jake and Elwood Blues and the music that surrounds them had the place absolutely rocking.

Shake your Tailfeather, Minnie the Moocher, Peter Gunne Theme, Hold on I'm Coming, Sweet Home Chicago, Theme from Rawhide, and soul and rock classics come hard and fast. Tobit as Elwood and Mario Megaro as Jake were superbly energetic, soulful and sensational. The band were enigmatic and electric. Classic after classic came pouring out.

Come back soon. The place was packed and pulsating.
