AFTER the indulgence of Christmas many of us feel the need to shed a few pounds, but find it difficult to make time for visits to the gym or to stick to a weight loss regime.
Watford businessman Steve McNulty aims to help people manage their weight without pain and resorting to a strict diet. His book, Simple Secrets To Easy Weight Loss, gives a series of steps to follow which people can do in their own order to suit their personal needs.
Steve has lost three stone through weight management
Steve says: "I needed to get help for my family and the NHS couldn't help so I looked at alternative therapies. The more I looked into it the more I was enthralled. I wanted to lead a more worthwhile life so I set up my own business consultancy to help people deal with their fears and phobias - such as weight loss, public speaking and stopping smoking."
Steve spent more than three years developing his techniques, which include algorithms (tapping points on the body) and a designated eating room to come up with a programme for weight management.
"In the eating room you take out all the distractions such as the TV and use that room just for meals. That means if you're in the lounge and someone offers you a cup of tea and a slice of cake you have to think if you really want that cake and get up and go into the eating room to have it.
"I went through more than nine months of experimentation where what I didn't find worked for me I didn't throw away in case it worked for someone else. You don't have to go through the book from points one to eight you can build your own plan.
"A lot of stuff in there is things my mother and grandmother told me such as chew slowly and drink a glass of water to stop yourself from feeling too hungry between meals. The new elements are my methods for collapsing food addictions and I do it without pills, potions or plans that cost a lot of money so you can create a way of life where you don't feel deprived.
"I've reprogrammed my brain and tastes to go upmarket in terms of food. The triggers for me to eat such as boredom, stress and anxiety have all gone."
Steve is proof of his own method having lost three stone and now he is having to keep his weight balanced in order to do Jane Tomlinson's 10k run for charity.
"Weight management works both ways," says Steve. "It's important to keep a healthy balance. You have to ask yourself what's your happy weight, not what anyone else tells you. It's what works for you as an individual to manage and maintain that really counts."
