Bastock commits his future
Paul Bastock has snubbed approaches from former club Boston United and their Blue Square North rivals Gainsborough Trinity to sign a new deal with St Albans City.
The influential goalkeeper played an enormous part in helping secure Saints' Blue Square South status since rejoining the club in February and became only the second player to win the St Albans City Supporters Club Player of the Year award for a second time.
The 37-year-old's impressive performances between the sticks have not gone unnoticed, particularly by Boston for whom Bastock made over 500 appearances for in 12 years. The Pilgrims' Lincolnshire rivals Gainsborough also tabled an offer for the Saints shut-out king but Bastock has now signed a new deal that will keep him at Clarence Park until the end of next season.
"Those two clubs made offers while a few other clubs showed an interest," said Bastock. "Obviously there is a connection with Boston but my in-laws own the football ground and I didn't want to be in the middle of all that.
"I just want to enjoy my football and that is what I've been doing at St Albans. It was a good way to finish the season and hopefully we can carry that form into the next one."
